New Foundation Hopes to Rescue Floundering Choral Music Scene
Orlando, FL, July 21, 2010 —The Orlando Choral Foundation is a new organization with a vision to create a unified community of choral musicians and to provide for the expansion of the performance arts. With the closing of the Orlando Opera Company, and the recent dissolution of the Orlando Chorale, choral musicians were left with an ever-decreasing infrastructure.
Why is the choral member so important? First of all, if a city has a solid choral base, opportunities for the entire performing arts community increase. A chorus will have need of orchestral musicians, for instance, and vice versa. Choral musicians are an integral part of many operatic productions, and will enhance the future of a return of and Opera Company in Orlando. Top choruses are also often used as ambassadors of cities and without one, the image of the cultural offerings of a community are tarnished.
We do still have a few reputable choruses in Orlando, and they will benefit from The Orlando Choral Foundation, as well. In addition to the projects that the OCF directly sponsors, collaboration with other choral groups and orchestras is also a prime objective. The OCF will attempt to act as a support mechanism for the enhancement of choral activities in many different ways, from fundraising to promotional assistance.
‘Seraphim’ is the first project of The Orlando Choral Foundation. Seraphim is a professional women’s ensemble that will make its debut this Christmas Season by performing free concerts for church congregations. The group is financially supported by ‘free-will’ or ‘love’ offerings on the night of the concerts and promotional materials and marketing are provided by The Orlando Choral Foundation. Future projects include a large MasterWorks Society, a professional Show Choir and a Boy Choir.
It is the hope at The Orlando Choral Foundation, that the development of a strong choral base will encourage the expansion of the Performing Arts in the community and lead to greater stabilization and recognition of the many educated and talented individuals in Central Florida. The Orlando Choral Foundation is a backbone for choral activity in Orlando. We are incorporated as a Florida Non-Profit Organization.
